The Southwest Detroit Business Association’s Run of the Dead is a 5K and 10K USATF-certified run that connects the observation of those who have passed away through the celebration of a long-standing Mexican holiday with an interactive and health-conscious event. With routes through the historic Holy Cross and Woodmere cemeteries, the Run of the Dead is one of several Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) activities found throughout Southwest Detroit.
The Run of the Dead promotes healthy living and offers a memorable, interactive way to celebrate El Día de los Muertos in a welcoming and culturally diverse environment.
The Southwest Detroit Business Association is excited to announce the proposed Hubbard-Vernor Project, the first mixed-use, new construction of its size in Southwest Detroit in many years. The development will be on West Vernor between Hubbard and Palms. The plan is for 1st floor commercial and upper floor apartments. It is anticipated that the project will include between 48 and 54 one and two-bedroom units, with 50% market rate and 50% affordable at a range of 20% to 60% AMI. AMI is the “average medium income” for the Detroit-Warren-Livonia area as defined by the federal government. On-site parking for the residential units will be a part of the complex.
The development partners include the Southwest Detroit Business Association, Cinnaire (a nationally known, Michigan-based affordable housing developer), and Invest Detroit (a community development financial institution). The development team has selected the local architectural firm of 511 Design which is collaborating with the lead architect SITIO.
The project is currently in the design phase and community input is encouraged. We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming community visioning sessions.
