Clark and Vernor Reactivation
The intersection of Clark St. and Vernor Hwy is quickly becoming one of the most popular gathering spots in Southwest Detroit. The past months have brought new businesses and activity to that corner. Over the summer, SDBA partnered with General Motors, Southwest Detroit Environmental Vision, City of Detroit General Services Department and Summer in the City to “reactivate” that corner by painting a mural, planting flowers beds, and installing public art and creating an attractive place for people to meet.
Shortly after all the attention that corner received in the summer, Rocky’s Road Brew set up shop to start selling coffee to patrons passing by. Today, coffee and conversation takes place at the seating area on the corner every morning. The new year will bring Flowers of Vietnam 2.0! This popular Southwest Detroit eatery will re-open at 4430 W Vernor in its newly-renovated restaurant space to eager patrons that have been waiting for its return since it closed for major renovations. On that same block, patrons can experience the flavors of Italy a few doors down at Pizza Plex. This new pizza joint offers traditional Neapolitan style pies and occasionally will have movies playing in the adjoining dining room.
We hope that residents and visitors to Southwest Detroit will be inspired by the arrival of these new businesses along W Vernor Highway. These “new kids on the block” will add to the many quality dining, entertainment, and retail destinations that can be found throughout Southwest Detroit. Buen provecho! Bon Apetite! Enjoy!
